CrossTalk: DC Reflects on Identity and Difference

Convening multiple forums across Washington, D.C. and public programs addressing racial and religious identities through Shakespeare’s works.

Folger Shakespeare Library requests support for CrossTalk: DC Reflects on Identity and Difference. This community engagement project will bring disparate publics together to consider race and religion thoughtfully and deeply, through the lens of literature and history. The Folger will plan and host a central public forum on May 15, 2016, to engage the greater Washington, D.C. community in dialogue about contemporary issues of identity and difference, and will work with community partners in hosting six smaller satellite forums across the city. As an extension of the forum, the Folger will conduct a variety of rich humanities, arts, and cultural programs and produce educational materials that will encourage additional online and in-person conversations about these timely topics.
