Grant to support writing of book examining the indigenous unmechanized society, the counterpart to modern technology and its social effects, in remote settlement in North Africa, Middle East, East Europe and Lapland. ABSTRACT: Summer stipend to support writing based on research already completed. Resulting book will examine the indigenous, unmechanized society, the counterpart to modern technology and its social effects, in remote settlements in North Africa, Middle East, East Europe and Lapland; how these self-sufficient and highly sophisticated societies interrelate with the restrictive pressures and influences of the ecology of their environment and how it affects their lives and the design of their total habitation. Fellow teaches future designers for out technology, his attitudes will help his students to become more knowledgeable about man's position in a delicately balanced world.
