Pilot Project for disseminating the Humanities in Local Communities

The American Association of State and Local History to test the "county historical agent" concept in the state of Utah. ABSTRACT: The American Association of State and Local History to test the "county historical agent" concept in the state of Utah. A trained historical professional working out of a State historical society office would help local groups attract and involve the public in their programs. The "agent" would receive initial orientation and training in the AASLH office. Specific activities to be undertaken under this grant: 1) development of an audio-visual color slide show on State history to be available to teachers and community organizations throughtout the State, 2) aid to a local society in developing improved monthly programs relating past events to today's problems, 3) local society promotion of community historical exhibits featuring role of minority groups in local history, 4) development of museum artifacts kit as teaching aids for distribution throughout the State. Evaluation of activities effectiveness to be measure in terms of press reaction; increase in public attendance; opinions of teachers, pupils, and community leaders. Salt Lake City to be pilot project site. Funds for one professional, secretary, exhibit materials and teaching aids, travel, training and necessary administrative expenses of AASLH.
