Southern Appalachian Archives at Mars Hill College
Endowment for the position of director/archivist and for programming in Southern Appalachian History and Culture.
Celebrating its Sequicentennial this year, Mars Hill College proposes to strengthen teaching, research, and public programs in Southern Appalachian History and Culture while drawing on the rich resources of our Appalachian archive. The grant would endow: 1) a Southern Appalachian History and Culture programming fund, and 2) a permanent archivist position to care for the collection, develop an online catalog, and assist faculty and students with use of primary materials. This program builds on efforts to bring together a humanities-based core program with a strong history of regional study, recognizing that place provides a window into national and international issues and that region is best understood comparatively.
