To develop a two-part program of regional studies which integrates into single courses of study material from various departments in the Humanities and from those with "humanistic content". The freshman part of the program, "The Cultural Components of Rural America", will integrate classics, communication, English, modern languages, philosophy, and a social science into a two semester course emphasizing communication skills and focusing on the historical, social, and "cultural" aspects of the region in which the University is located. The advanced course, "Life and Thought in the Contemporary West", will employ lectures and discussions of reading and research assignments and will integrate material from two or more Humanities disciplines.
