Grant to fund three conferences at Center for Coordination of Ancient and Modern Studies to promote and facilitate contacts and collaboration among scholars conducting research on relationships of ancient concepts, practices and institutions to modern, and the influences of one on the other. ABSTRACT: Grant to fund three conferences. First conference to plan future activities of Center Coordination of Ancient and Modern Studies, arrange publicity, identify scholars interested in participating to subsequent conferences, suggest research areas, draw up working guidelines for future discussion. Second and third conferences substantive, dealing with topics from politics, history, education, law, philosophy, language and literature. Basic purpose of Center to promote and facilitate contacts and collaboration among scholars conducting research on relationships of ancient concepts, practices, and institutions, to modern, and influences of one on the other. Though interdisciplinary activity has everywhere increased, relatively few scholars have actively explored the relevance of the Classics to students of the modern world. Center to serve as listening post for exchanges of ideas. Aim to make classics relevant to modern world and modern studies. Enable use of classical heritage to explore modern problems.
