Afro-American Studies Curriculum Development

Development of coordinated Afro-American Studies curriculum, grades k-14, carried on jointly by Merritt College and Berkeley Unified School District. Because of the proliferation of Black study courses and programs in the San Franciso Bay area, the Peralta Junior College District requested a planning grant for the development of a coordinated Afro-American studies curriculum, grades K-14. Project is to be carried on jointly by Merritt College and the Berkeley Unified School District. Aims of the project, in addition to coordination of curriculum, are 1) to study and make recommendations regarding teaching-learning strategies to be used in Black studies; 2) to collect, produce, and make recommendations concerning multi-media materials; and 3) to serve as a clearinghouse for information, materials, programs, and resource people for Black studies in the San Francisco Bay area. Impact of the program will reach Bay Area communities and its 10-12 community colleges and public school districts.
