ARTS/WORTH "To convince America that the Arts are of essential ecuational importance"

Preparation of material which presents case for better quality of arts instruction and more secure postion for it in the curriculum. ABSTRACT: National Council of the Arts in Education, a federation of 20 national organization concerned with all the arts in education system from K to 16, proposes 3-year project to alter those present attitudes in society which relegate study of arts to position of secondary importance. Will investigate role of arts in educational process and ways art education can meet demands posed by contemporary social pressures and by new forms and content of arts themselves; assess new curricular models; explain relevance of arts to teaching other disciplines and review direction and accomplishments of current arts education research. Planning phase funded by Chairman's grant (EO-64-70-4316). Funds under this grant to prepare body of material wich presents case for better quality of arts instruction and more secure position for it in the curriculum. Resulting document will be brought to attention of decision-makers who are in a position to affect education in the arts and to social groups whose attitudes condition the acceptance of arts as legitimate part of general education (not funded under this grant).
