America's 19th Century Cities in Law, Constitutionalism, and Politics

Inquiry into legal history of 19th century cities in US. There is a lack of useful historical data about constitutional and legal aspects of American urban centers. Studies exist about some aspects of urban law during the period--charity arrangments, fuel and illuminants, safety regulations, police and fire protection institutions--but no synthesis has been published and many areas remain unresearched. Understanding of constitutional and legal history of American cities will facilitate understanding of problems and potentials of modern urban centers. Fellow also to acquire grounding in technical aspects of current municipal law as enrolled student at Harvard Law School and University of Houston Law School. Law study necessary both for this study and for duties as teacher in legal and constitutional history.
