Henry VIII's Divorce in Italy

Study of Henry VIII's campaign to secure from canonists, theologians, exgetes and universities, particulary in Italy, favorable opinions on his divorce. The favorable opinions of universities and scholars cannot be ascribed altogether to the power of money. Focus on great Italian universities and scholars, with some attention paid to those in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The favorable determinations of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge not treated since they have already be adequately handled by English historians and biographers. Study touches on many allied and perennial problems which face US today: international relations, cold war, liberty of conscience, revolt against authority, university policy and autonomy, academic freedom, etc.
