Jack London and the Valley of the Moon

To document the last decade of London's career, with special focus on his building of the Beauty Ranch in Valley of the Moon in California; to analyze the interaction between his agrarian vision and his literary work; and to examine that work in the broader perspective of the American pastoral ideal as this myth has been defined by such scholars as Henry Nash Smith, Leo Marx, and Kevin Starr.
