Consequentialist Ethical Theories: Conceptual and Logical Problems

To examine consequentialist ethical theories, in particular utilitarianism. Project will examine: 1) problems in the formulation of act utilitarianism and explain concepts of "act", "alternativeā€, and "consequence; 2) problems of cooperation among rational act utilitarians; 3) logical issues that arise in evaluating consequences; 4) problems common to theories like rule utilitarianism.
