To investigate the intellectual basis of Yi dynasty social values in the writings of the School of Practical Learning (Sirhak) from the 17th through the 19th centuries. To investigate the writings of the members of this supposed "school" in order to examine the main content of Utopian social thought in this period and to discover the roots of Korean socioeconomic values in the writings of the age's most brilliant intellectual figures.
