The Epic Strategies of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde in Relation to 14th Century Political Ideology

To complete a book explaining Chaucer's use of classical principles in the development of English poetic style and, specifically, in the writing of Troilus and Criseyde; and demonstrating how his use of these principles allowed him to comment on 14th-century political events and ideology. The book will be a case study in the development of vernacular culture, as a detailed analysis of the creation of a usable past, and as a demonstration of the vitality of the humanistic tradition.
