The Ecology of Power: Landlord and Peasant in Northern Iraq

To explore several major themes and problems in Middle Eastern Ethnology and social history focusing on a complex and unusual case of one Christian village, Qaraqosh, in the northeastern part of Iraq. As a traditional refuge area where widely varying groups have co-existed for several centuries, it proves ideal for studies into the nature of urban rural networks, the structure of inter-ethnic relations and the social organization of religious and political power in areas of scare resource The case of the village of Oaraqosh, which saw a dispute between a landed aristocracy and traditional villages over domain will contribute to the understanding of the social organization of power and inter-group dynamics in the Middle East as well as illuminate some aspects of cultural*
