Interpersonal Relationships in the Development of the Blanzy Coal Basin of France, 1814-1914..

To examine in a study concerning coal mining and coal miners in the Blanzy basin of eastern France during the 19th century, the changing relationships among three groups of people: 1) the members and clients of the entrepreneurial families, 2) the peasants turned miners, and 3) representatives of the state at various level, local, regional and national. The study will be a case history of the human relationships involved in the process of industrialization, alienation from or integration into a pluralistic society of many component elements.
