Jugoslavism: Ideal and Reality, 1800-1918

To write a history of the pan-national movement, Jugoslavism: Ideal an Reality, 1800-1918, from its inception in the 19th century through the formation of the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes in 1918 thereby explaining why nationalism triumphed and not Jugoslavism. Study will also examine the social and economic aspects of the nationality problem, the role of religion, cultural traditions, education and literature and the different interpretations which each nation had of the concept and function of the state. Two ideologies, Jugoslavism and socialism have been employed to unify the South Slavs.
