Social Cohesion in America, 1815-1840; 1925-1950

To study the sources of social cohesion in American society 1815-1840 and 1925-1950. In the earlier period, an apparently fragmented society was held together because of a parallel development among individuals, families, communities, companies, and regions thus preserving social insularity and creating patterns of dependence on a wider society. In the later period Grantee believes an apparently integrated nation did not homogenize American society.
