The German Sectarians and the American Revolution

A complete study of a little known chapter in the history of the American Revolution--the experience of the German sectarians--the Amish, Brethren, Mennonites, Moravians, Schwenkfelders, and Separatists. Because they lived by an ethic of pacifism and non-resistance, they were (ordinarily) not able to join the Revolutionary cause. Study will provide needed information on a significant group of colonists, who found themselves in a troubled minority in a revolutionary situation. Study will lead to a better understanding of the pluralistic reality of the early American experience.
