A History of Eastern Turkestan in the 16th and 17th Centuries A.D.

To examine the causes for the decline of nomadism among the Muslim rulers, the gradual consolidation of political power in the hands of the Naqshbandi Khojas, and the annexation of the country by the Zunghar empire in Eastern Turkestan in the 16th and 17th centuries. The purpose is to demonstrate some basic interconnections between Chinese and Islamic history and to provide the social and cultural background to the Ch'ing dynasty's annexation of Eastern Turkestan in the 18th century and also to the 19th century Muslim rebellions in Shensi, Kansu, Tsinghai, and Sinkiang.
