Political Space and Political Change in 20th Century Chinese Thought

The study will examine the political ideologies in which Chinese intellectuals sought answers to China's problems, as well as the reasons why certain ideologies proved more appealing than others. It will emphasize the political dimension of Chinese thought, which existing studies have often treated only as an aspect of the cultural confrontation between China and the West over the last century. The main body of the study will be devoted to political thought in the 20s when, under the impetus of political developments, Chinese political thought reached its full complexity.
