An Economic History of the Greco-Roman World

The completion of a book-length survey on the economic history of ancient Greece and Rome.

This project will produce a book serving as an introduction to the economic history of the Greek and Roman world (covering roughly 1200 BCE-400 CE and the Mediterranean world, broadly conceived). It will comprise three sections, treating (1) economic theory and methodologies and the history of economic thought about the Greek and Roman world; (2) a narrative, chronological discussion of Greco-Roman economic history, focused on large-scale and regional trends, continuity and change, and particular problems and questions about the economic history of the periods and areas discussed; and (3) a series of "case-studies" of focused, specific questions, designed to exploit different types of evidence, approaches, and modeling to a wide variety of economic historical matters. The book is aimed at general readers interested in the topic and, especially, advanced undergraduates and graduate students studying the Greco-Roman world who want a comprehensive introduction.
