The Paintings of Dutch Artist Hendrick Terbrugghen (1588-1629)
I plan to prepare a monographic study with a catalogue raisonné of the paintings of the celebrated seventeenth-century Dutch artist, Hendrick Terbrugghen. The late Leonard Slatkes had intended to write such a monograph and critical catalogue to supercede one published in 1958. However at his death, a substantial portion of Slatkes’s project remained unfinished. I will complete Slatkes’s catalogue and write a series of essays about Terbrugghen’s art in relation to the broader milieu of early seventeenth-century Dutch culture, which was remarkably diverse in Utrecht.
