WWW/Database Edition of 15th-Century French Lyric, La Belle dame qui eut mercy [The Beautiful Lady with Mercy]
The project uses databases in an interactive edition of "La Belle dame qui eut mercy." This poem has never been edited, yet predates Chartier's controversial "Beautiful Lady without Mercy" (1424). Being web-based and using a relational database, it allows readers to request various views of the text: Editor's Choice Best Text plus all other manuscript versions, list of words at the rhyme, simultaneous comparisons of a single line from each manuscript, facing-page English & Modern French translations, embedded glossary, manuscript facsimiles, even direct access to the raw textual data. The non-linear format and depth of textual access in this edition distinguish it from both print and book-like online editions. (www.innoved.org/belledame)
