Reconceiving Benedict Spinoza's Metaphysics and Ethics
Spinoza has become increasingly relevant for religious, historical, political, and philosophical studies of the early modern period. But what Spinoza himself described as one of his most important projects, systematically integrating a rationalist metaphysics with his ethical program, remains elusive and poorly understood by even specialists. Drawing on work in the recent renaissance of Spinoza studies, my proposed monograph, Reconceiving Spinoza, provides a novel, integrated interpretation of how Spinoza's metaphysics and ethics shape one another in ways that remain germane for contemporary philosophical disputes.
