Translation of Hasdai Crescas's Or Adonai (Light of the Lord), A 14th-Century Work on the Philosophy of Religion

A translation into English of the complete Hebrew classic medieval work, Or Adonai (Light of the Lord), by the 14th Century Jewish philosopher, Hasdai Crescas. This is a work of astounding breadth and depth, rivaling in its scope and brilliance its justly famous precursor, Maimonides' Guide of the Perplexed. It treats a host of challenging issues in the philosophy of religion, including: the origin of the universe, the nature of God, the relationship between God and the world, free will, divine providence, prophecy, and the soul and immortality. It has influenced such philosophers as Pico della Mirandola and Spinoza.
