The Metaphysics of Godfrey of Fontaines

Investigation of metaphysical views of the late 13th century philosopher-theologian, Godfrey of Fontaines, as found in his major work, a series of Quaestiones quodlibetales dating from 1285 until 1303-4 when he lectured as Master of thoelogy at the University of Paris. Godfrey was one of the most important thinkers of the final decades of the 13th century and fuller study of his thought is essential for an understanding of the movement of ideas during the period between Thomas Aquinas and John Duns Scotus. Expansion of fellow's doctoral dissertation to include major influences on Godfrey both conetmporary and philosophical, the social context in which he wrote, and his influence on Duns Scotus.
