Social and Political Thought in New Granada (Columbia), 1830-1860

Study of social and political philosophies prevalent in New Granada (Columbia) between 1830 and 1860, showing their influence on the development of formal political parties (the Liberals and the Conservatives). By analyzing public careers, published works and personal papers of five individuals representative of various shades of political thought--radical, liberal, moderate, conservative, ractionary--fellow shows how Granadinos perceived their national problems and the solutions they proposed for them. Fellow also to edit and publish a series of letters exchanged between Generals Herran and Mosquera, presidents of New Granada 1841-45 and 1845-49 respectively; part of continuing long-range venture begun in 1966.
