Women on the California-Nevada Mining Frontier: 1849-1910

To investigate the belief that women played an important role in bringing to the frontier West the institutions and ideals established in the East. The study will be an examination of diaries, letters, and other writings of Eastern women who moved to the frontier mining towns of California and Nevada from 1849 to 1910.
