American Documentary Film of the 1930s

To carry out a study of the development of the history and aesthetic of American social and political documentary film during the Depression, as a basis for an expanded study of the possibilities of film in the social political and economic spheres, and as preparation for a course on Post World War II artists and their relationship to Dachau, Hiroshima, and Vietnam. The examination of the history of cinema and the potential effects of this medium on our world is of great significance.
