The Concept of "Ideology"

This project will deal with the problem of objectivity in the social sciences, the problems of the correct of human action, and the problem of whether moral commitment is tantamount an ideological commitment. A distinction will be drawn between two kinds of scepticism--the one kind exemplified by the work of scientists, who cannot accept without scrutiny inherited beliefs, established dogmas, common prejudices, etc.; the other, as exemplified by Descartes, doubt with respect to sense perception in general. This distinction should be fruitful for an explication of the concept of "ideology."
