The Religious Culture of the Antebellum Southern Negro

To study the characteristics and functions of the religious cultures of the Antebellum black American and determine the extent of adaptation of African traditional religion or assimilation of white Protestantism. Development of a black religion, from the Revolution through Reconstruction and its importance to black will be investigated.
