Greek and German Concepts of Fate, a Linguistic Approach

To acquire a deeper and richer knowledge of the language and to disentangle the different stands of thought concerning Fate and Necessity that can be found in Hesiod, Homer and the tragedians. To study the likenesses and differences between the Greek views and the German sense of fate redolent in early English literature, particularly Beowulf. Study would be a fundamentally linguistic one, a matter of collecting the pertinent passages for comparison in the two languages, analyzing and interpreting, and drawing some conclusions about the concepts and workings of Fate in the two cultures.
