A Study of comedy from Aristophanes to Stoppard to investigate the “world upside down", a motif which is an emblem of the chaos with which one must deal, chaos in the world without as well as within. The 20th century question, of course, is a recognition of what constitutes a world "right side-up" or whether such a thing is possible
