The 1967 Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings for Thurgood Marshall
This project explores the social and political dynamics surrounding the 1967 Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Thurgood Marshall. It was a battle that pitted Southern lawmakers--who opposed Marshall--against Northern lawmakers who chapioned his nomination. Titanic figures weighed in, among senators Jim Eastland, Strom Thurmond, John Stennis, Ted Kennedy, and President Lyndon Johnson, bent on integrating the highest court with the celebrated Marshall.
