Early Modern Women Philosophers: Cosmology to Human Nature

The works of early modern women philosophers had been, in a sense, lost to the discipline of philosophy. However, in the last decade or so, there has been an effort to bring women back into our histories. My book, Early Modern Women Philosophers: Cosmology to Human Nature, will contribute to the effort to reintegrate women into our histories. In it, I focus on the metaphysical and epistemological views of Margaret Cavendish, Anne Conway, Gabrielle Suchon, Damaris Masham, Mary Astell, Marie Huber, and Emilie Du Chatelet. Understanding the views of these philosophers will broaden our understanding of a wide range of core philosophical issues and open up new avenues of scholarship in the history of philosophy. The book will serve as an aid for specialists, teachers, and advanced students in philosophy. In addition, those working in cognate areas in the humanities (e.g., women's studies and history) and those interested in the history of ideas will benefit from the work.
