The Motives and Values of American Scientists: The Case of Botanists

To examine the conceptual frameworks, values and social and political arrangments of scientists in Botany. Prior to 1917, Botany was the scientific field in the U.S. and the Dept. of Agriculture together with the Agricultural Experiment stations was the world's largest research organization. Furthermore, Botanists were key figures in the conservationist movement.
