The Ideology and Practice of Southern Publish Education, 1865-1900
To examine the southern public school system in the 1800s. The study will focus on the discrepancy between the expectations of most Americans (i.e. that racial integration in the schools would lead to more harmonious race relations and provide the free-men with opportunities for advancement) and actual practice in the classroom. The study will shed light on the present situtation in American education.
