Documention of Yauyos
The goal of this project is to document Yauyos, a nearly extinct Quechuan language. Yauyos is not a single language, but a "supralect," a set of seven or more more-or-less mutually intelligible dialects spoken in fourteen villages in the Cañete Valley of Peru, approximately 200 kilometers south-east of Lima. Investigators will conduct fieldwork to record Yauyos in audio and video format; prepare a database of annotated recordings of Yauyos; prepare a lexicon of Yauyos; prepare a sketch grammar of Yauyos; and conduct analysis of Yauyos in light of current theory in formal semantics, in particular with regard to its evidential and modal system.
