A Bibliography of and Critical Evaluation of the Writings of Elaine Goodale Eastman

To the study of Americana and Native American literature as well j as to Woman’s Studies from 1880-1940, by undertaking an in-depth study of the writings of Elaine Goodale Eastman (1863-1945). Eastman was first a teacher of Indians at Hampton and Carlisle, then supervisor of education for the Sioux. Her Voices at Eve, 1930, a collection of her poetry deals, in part, with her efforts to interpret Sioux ways and the white world. Her writings reflect her conflicts with conflicting cultural traditions.
