Seminar Entitled High Culture in Victori an England
The seminar will study the influence of industrialization on culture in the world's first industrial nation (or civilization). The emphasis will be on the "high", dominant or elite culture of the 19th century, although contrasting studies on the working class will be included. Readings will be drawn from art history, architecture, the decorative arts, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, literary criticism and politics.
