Art and Life in France, 1850-1900

To study the development of modern art in the period from 1850-1900 in France. The seminar will examine the art of the period in a broad cultural and historical context thus providing a model for the understanding and undergraduate teaching of other periods as well. Readings in social, political, and intellectual history will be integrated into the seminar.
