Comparative Approaches to Order and Authority in Modern Japanese Political Development

To examine the problems of authority and order in the political development of Japan from 1868-1940. Seminar will emphasize factors which affected the development of 1) the formal structure of the political order; 2) the structure of authority; and 3) the concepts of legitimacy used to integrate these structure.
