The Black Experience in America as Interpreted by Negro Churchmen

Study of Negro experience as it was interpreted by black clergymen. Fellow has compiled bibliography of writings by and about black churchmen. Study concentrates on representative and outstanding churchmen and deals with 1) black identification with the children of Isreal, 2) moral contradictions and failures in American Christians' response to slavery, 3) role of black churchmen in development of racial pride, 4) response of black religious leaders to the Booker T. Washington-W.E.B. Dubois controversy. Part of the broader study of religion and society in America. Fellow teaches course in American Negro Religion, to which study is relevant.
