Relevance of Traditions in Black Literature

Study of black writers' use of literary traditions and conventions, their deviations from these traditions, and the result of these deviations--whether there really is a development of another aesthetic or merely a revival of past traditions. If there is, in fact, a Black aesthetic, what are it purpose and its standards of value?
