The Crisis of 1111

To work on the political history of the reform papacy and of the investiture controversy. The crisis of 1111 played a crucial role in the history of the theory of legislative power. The crisis was produced by an agreement between Pope Pascal II and King Henry V ending the investiture controversy in Germany. Church and kingdom were severly disrupted when the agreement collapsed under a storm of protest. No one has appreciated the long term impact of the affair.
