Women's Response to Roles and Role Models in Old Indian Buddhism

Study is part of a long range project on women in religion. P.D. has already written papers on the religious roles and lives in India; developed a course on the cross-cultural study of women in religion; and, with Dr. Gross of the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, co-edited a volume of essays to be contributed by persons in a variety of disciplines and area specializations, on the cross-cultural study of women's religious lives. Study will explore the relationship of women's actual religious lives and experiences to the roles that have been defined for them in the tradition of old Indian Buddhism.
