Archaeological Excavation of Prehistoric Greek Shrine
To complete excavation and isolation of a complex of Mucenaean (ca. 1250 B.C.) shrines at the prehistoric Greek site of phylakopi in the Aegean island of Melos. This shrine is important because few shrines from prehistoric Greece are known and only two compare in monumentality to the Phylakopi shrine complex. In addition, the sanctuary was sealed off while still in full use, probably by a series of earthquakes, the last occurring toward the end of the XIIIth-century B.C., and its contents left undisturbed.
