To complete a study of the structure of politics in colonial New York between 1720-1740 which will examine the extent to which deference was a factor in elections and will gauge the importance of elections in the constitution of the government. PI hopes to shed light on the nature of politics and to reveal not only the sources of New York's famous instability, but also the causes politicians assigned to it at the time.
