Bertolt Brecht's Collaborators

To explore the relationship between Brecht and his collaborators. Most of his co-workers were writers in their own right, and some Brecht scholars believe that Brecht developed a model of team work in the writing process and later in the production of plays, that we more easily associate with the work of scientists. Focus will be on four women collaborators—Elisabeth Hauptmann, Ruth Berlau, Margarete Steffin and Marieluise Fleisser. This study will develop theories of Brecht's relationships with women to determine if there was exploitation of his co-workers.
